Notion of how the ego becomes detrimental.

There may be many ideas and definitions of what the ego is, depending on what "science" defines it.

Here we are left with the idea that this is similar to a kernel of an operating system structure that has the information that defines the person and is maintained despite it enters sleep mode.

In a less computer language, we would say that is a collection of thoughts self sustained, constituted of implants and imprints to which the person uses, consciously and / or unconsciously, to define the self that individualize, differentiate and separate from the rest of their peers.

It is not a static structure but is growing and gathering information, structuring and re-defining.

To the extent that the person learns intellectually his ego is taking shape and power.

The problem occurs when this takes the control of the will and fails to identify the times when this occurs.

Trying to be a little more clear, try to provide information, perhaps not in a very academic format, but in understandable language.

It is not difficult to identify a person of egocentric characteristics, who often exaggerate their own skills and consider everything that happens from itself and from itself, becoming the center of everything.

But, there are a variety of self-centeredness or dominant egos and often are hidden precisely because they learned to be self-centered is not well seen, so the ego disguised as humility, that is, the pseudo-humility emerged.

When the ego will dominate most of the time, the person experiences discomfort chronically, since one of the symptoms of this domain is chronic and almost imperceptible fear, such as the fear of loneliness, death , the future, etc.. these fears are well dressed, and take several forms, which can be, hate, sadness, frustration, helplessness or symptoms such as hyperactivity or euphoria, so to distract themselves from those fears.

Everything happens very unconsciously, because it must be so for the ego to exercise its domain.

It often takes the form of recurring thoughts, always hovering over the same, other reviews, complaints, questions, imaginary fights, thoughts of death (of others or self), victimhood, desire to control, etc..

When let these thoughts take flight too create internal environments so dense and unbearable that the person begins to experience isolation wishes for internal clipping itself.

Feel nothing or noone around is appropriate or is totally different from what it wants yet, those desires fluctuate with his moods.

It feels "special", rare, or different, because it wants to feel different compared to others, naturally. I'm different because I'm introverted and/or fancy or clever or arrogant or friendly or irritable or diplomatic and/or spiritual or "awake" or atheist, etc..
There is always valid for the ego to feel different and special reason, because it is a necessity.

Is ego the precursor of the idiosyncrasies and sectarianism with which the person identifies to feel that it has the things under control and at the same time, finds reasons to war, to discord and fight. For instance: at the time that patriotism, religious dogma or political system is accepted, a division occurs.

It is a miracle that the person do not collapses having his mind so sectioned, can become many things: woman, daughter, mother, sister, wife, French, a supporter of Real Madrid, Chicago Bulls and Roger Federer, Socialist, Humanist , Jewish, feminist, scientistic, psychologist, friend, enemy, etc. .. etc..

It's good exercise, try to identify what things we define and evaluate which of those things is innate to us.

It is important for the individual and humanity, that the ego be offset and the only way is becoming aware of thoughts and deeds, so recovers will.

Being attentive to the manifestations of ego one achieve self-control and no longer feels attacked by the environment, because no longer the center, no longer feels the criticism and adulation as personal and therefore not dominate its feel, but this becomes natural, own, unique and spontaneous, free of morality.

Someone once said about Jesus, "was so ordinary that became special." In a world where most want to be special, someone ordinary becomes paradoxically special.

There is a famous passage that represents it in the desert for forty days meditating or praying, where he would has faced with the "devil". Some interpret this confrontation occurred with his own ego which urged him to become "powerful", to be above others. And they say that this was the moment that won the supremacy of conscience over worldly personality or ego.

And attentive to the latter, there is what they called the Jerusalem Syndrome , which would be one of many mental illnesses that causes extremely expanded ego, the person who gives the idea of being unique and chosen.
